The Full Spectrum of Success

When I work with my clients, I sometimes like to bring in some magic. I’ll say, “Let’s imagine I have a magic wand. It can give you exactly what you want. Tell me - how would you love to feel?”

Their answers are always heartfelt.

A common response that I get is, “I want to feel confident - like I can handle anything.” They envision being bold and fearless, effortlessly making decisions and tackling challenges head-on.

But as we keep talking, they often continue with, “What if I’m taking on too much? What if I mess up?” That confidence they craved is accompanied by nagging doubts and the pressure to live up to it.

Through these conversations, the pattern is really clear: every positive feeling they wanted brought its own challenges. Accomplishment came with pressure, confidence with doubt, and control with exhaustion.

The magic wand didn’t fail - it simply revealed a truth we often overlook - emotions don’t come as a straight “good” or “bad.” They exist on a spectrum, each carrying shades of light and shadow.

The key isn’t to chase only the “good” feelings and avoid the “bad” ones - it’s to accept the full range of emotions that come with striving for what we want. When we acknowledge this, we can start focusing on how to create more of the emotions that uplift and empower us, and how to reframe those that hold us back.

So, what would you love to feel? And how can you embrace everything that comes with it while building more of the emotions you want in your life?

And right now, I feel in a bit of a holiday mode, even though we are not there yet… hence I choose the holiday hat in the picture…
