We all want to get the most out of our days and become more productive, but many of us don't always prioritise this. Instead, many choose, whether consciously or not, to stay busy with various tasks that might not be the most productive use of their time. The idea of being busy has become a badge of honour for so many, but is that really the most effective way to handle our work and responsibilities?
Being busy is not the same as being productive. Busyness is often a result of a lot of un-necessary churn or an avoidance tactic that results in getting nothing finished, or at least not finished on time. You can spend hours in the day being busy with tasks that don't have any real impact on the end result. People often think that if they are busy, then they must be productive. However, that's not necessarily true. While busyness implies that you're doing something, it doesn't necessarily mean that you're doing the right thing or something of value.
On the other hand, being productive is focused on getting results. Productivity doesn't mean that you have to be busy all the time. It's about understanding what needs to be done and getting it done in the most effective way. It means knowing when to take breaks and when to focus on the task at hand. It means making decisions about how to manage your time and energy wisely.
In order to be productive, you need to have clarity about what needs to be done and how to do it right first time. You need to be able to prioritise your tasks and set achievable goals. It's also important to set realistic expectations and know when to take breaks. Being productive requires discipline, but it can be rewarding when you see the results of your hard work.
Coaching is all about results.
